A Game Of Two Halves
Top of table meet bottom of table, unfortunately with the expected result.
Redcar kicked off with the conditions ideal for Rugby, no wind and fine and dry. Durham looked like a well drilled team and put Redcar under pressure from the start, but they made lots of basic errors, knock on’s, forward passes and dropped passes, this allowed Redcar to gain some possession, counter attack and ease the pressure, after 18 mins Durham did break through and score a converted try, 7 – 0.
Redcar did have three kickable penalty chances in the first half, but inexplicably the opted to kick for position and then lost the lineouts, they could have been winning 7 – 9, as it was the half finished just 7 nil to Durham.
Half Time Durham City 7 Redcar 0
The second half was an all together different game, Durham started from the whistle and scored after only two minutes, 12 – 0. Then, as Redcar ran out of steam, they then ran in 6 more tries on 44 mins, 46 mins, 52 mins, 54 mins, 60 mins and 79 mins. Redcar had given their all in the first half and when the flood gates opened, they were swamped.
Redcar played some good rugby in the first half with all 16 players giving 100% and all credit must go to them for their wholehearted effort, but in the end it was inevitable they would struggle against a top side like Durham.
Final Score Durham City 52 Redcar 0.
