Novos Looked At Home Playing At Kingston Park
Redcar enjoyed the occasion playing at the Falcons ground, but not the result.
Redcar kicked off with the rain persisting on what was an ideal playing surface for running rugby, unfortunately it was Novos who took full advantage of it and they scored after only 3 minutes, literally from the kick off, 7 – 0. They scored again 5 mins later, 12 – 0, before Redcar’s No.8 Chester Reed went off with a shoulder injury (again), this meant Redcar had to bring on prop Cian Briggs and move Andy Little to No.8. Novos kicked a penalty on 26 mins and scored another try just on half time.
Half Time Novos 22 Redcar 0
Novos restarted the game and with only a minute played, scored from a Redcar lineout mistake, 29 – 0. Redcar had further disruptions when hooker Steve Sill was injured, so winger Jamie Butler came on and centre Ben Durrans moved to No.8, Andy Little went back to prop and Michael Tucker moved to hooker. Redcar did have some joy as winger Craig Newlands scored on 49 mins, as did full back Danny Addison on 60 mins, with Novos getting their 5th try between the two, 36 – 10.
Novos scored three more tries the last being on the stroke of full time, to bring the final score to Novos 55 Redcar10.
Redcar clearly beaten by a better team, but squandered several chances of scoring easy kickable penalties and opted for kicks to the corner or scrums which they then lost. Overall it would not have altered the outcome of the game but the scoreline would have looked better and you cannot deny their wholehearted effort and commitment right until the final whistle.
