In The Basement Battle Redcar Lose
Redcar threw everything at Ponte but to no avail.
Ponteland kicked off as the light rain came down, the conditions were miserable and that’s how the game was for Redcar. Ponte kicked a penalty after 5 mins, 3 – 0. Although Ponte had most of the attacking play, Redcar took the lead after 12 mins with a try from captain Richie Young, some good driving play from the forwards and a clever kick through from fly half Jake Duddles, beat the Ponte defence and full back Richie slipped through, collected the ball and scored, the easy conversion was missed, 3 – 5. Ponte were awarded two further easy penalty chances, the first they opted for a scrum, (such was their dominance and confidence), which came to nothing and the second they kicked and missed. On 36 mins Ponte scored a try which was converted, 10 – 5.
Half Time Ponteland 10 Redcar 5
Redcar restarted the second half and only 5 mins had been played when centre Josh Dixon was given a yellow card, only the referee seemed to know why, This gave Ponte the advantage of numbers and 2 mins later, they attacked on the right hand touch, then passed the ball across the field to the left and outnumberd Redcar’s backs and the winger scored in the corner, the conversion was missed, 15 – 5. The rest of the game was played out with Ponte having the lions share of the play and Redcar battling hard, but going nowhere.
Final Score Ponteland 15 Redcar 5.
